Dua for Iftar
The dua for Iftar (breaking fast) is a supplication recited at the time of iftar. It’s an opportunity to express gratitude for Allah’s provisions and seek His mercy and blessings through the words practically demonstrated to us by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Dua for Iftar in arabic
اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ صُمْتُ وَعَلَى رِزْقِكَ اَفْطَرْتُ
O Allah! I fasted for You and and I break my fast with Your sustenance.
[Abu Dawud]

Allahumma laka sumtu wa ‘ala rizqika aftartu
Why is this Dua for Iftar Important?
- Gratitude to Allah: It acknowledges Allah as the Provider of all sustenance.
- Renewal of Faith: It reaffirms our trust and belief in Allah’s mercy and wisdom.
- Strengthened Connection: It transforms the physical act of eating into a spiritual experience.
Iftar commences at Maghrib, marked by the initial words of the beautiful adhan.
In our weakened state from fasting, the urge to hastily break our fast is strong. Yet, this vulnerable moment is precious—ideal for reflecting on Allah and making heartfelt dua. Just as the dua at suhoor declares our intent to fast, the dua at iftar becomes an expression of gratitude to Allah.

Salam to all Muslim worldwide.
It is a rear blessing from Allah(SWT) to experience another fast in this holy month of Ramadan.
May Allah(SWT) accept our fast as sincere act of ibadah.(Amin)
Brother ‘Slave of Allah’ and Ahmed, I think this is not the period to debate over duas been authentic or not.
A lot of Muslims are not even aware of these duas. Yet they fast earnestly to Allah(SWT).
The bottom line is for us to observe our fast with strict adherence to sharia.

Be cautious: dear brothers and sisters in Islam, there exists two Dua’s in the Internet. The one is very very popular, but weak. And the other is not popular, but strong. So please brothers and sisters, use the strong one! Admin.
Popular, but weak Hadith:
Allah Humma inni Laka Soom-Tu wah Bikka aa-Mantu [wa-Ilayka Tawak’ Kalto], Wah Ala Rizke-Ka Af-Tar-tu Fahtaqab al-Minnee [Oh Allah I
have fasted for You, believed in You, relied on You, and with your sustenance i break it. Therefore forgive me my past and future sins.]
Notice: [“wa ‘alayka tawakkaltu” is quoted in some books of knowledge – but not all, hence it is in brackets]
Why is this Hadith weak? This Hadith (“Allahumma inni laka sumtu wa bika aamantu [wa ‘alayka tawakkaltu] wa ‘ala rizq-ika aftarthu”)
which is found in the Sunan Of Abu Dawud (2358) on the authority of Mu’aath ibn Zuhra. And the Hadith is Mursal which means that there
is a missing link between Mu’aath ibn Zuhra and the Prophet (Sallalahu alaihi wasallam) as he did not meet
the Prophet (sallalaahu alaihi wasallam) i.e. so the report is weak.
Strong Hadith, but not very popular like the above one:
dhahabadh-dhama’u wab-tallatil ‘uruuqi, wa thabatal arju inshaAllah
“The thirst is gone, the veins are moistened and the reward is confirmed, if Allah [Ta’ala] Wills” [Abu Dawud 2:306]
